Bernerd Baxter
Bernerd Baxter is beautiful. He has black hair and grey wolf eyes that operate like lasers into your soul.
Bernerd is a pizza delivery guy and, because he is exceptionally polite, he makes great tips. He has saved enough money from his job to buy a very groovy hearse and a Vespa scooter. He has learned basic car and motorcycle mechanics to be able to service his own vehicles. He is an excellent money manager and understands the power of cash as a way to get what he wants, but he is not a jerk about it. Instead, he is thoughtful, methodical and always honest.
A Film Connoisseur & Actor
Bernerd is an avid film and movie buff. His interests change constantly but in Rumour Du Jour he watches all the vampire movies he can in order to prepare for his lead role in Silverwoods’ production of Dracula. He likes the classics best and thinks Edward Cullen shouldn’t be sparkly. His sister likes the fact that Edward sparkled, but that’s just Sigge. Nosferatu scared Bernerd and he is not afraid to admit it. That’s because Bernerd owns his emotions: he is mature and looks out for his sister.
Bernerd is using his performance in Dracula as his audition piece for theatre school. He takes acting very seriously and believes that the stage or the screen is where he will be when he grows up. He knows that show business is very fickle so he is applying to business school as well. His fall back plan if he doesn’t become a successful actor will be to use his business sense and become an agent for actors. He’s a continuous combination of sense and creativity.
A Supportive Brother
When Bernerd’s brother Eric caused all of the problems for his family, Bernerd stepped up and protected his sister and parents. He is emotionally strong, getting his strength from knowing when to ask for help when he feels overwhelmed. Both Bernerd and Sigge have gone to counselling and are part of a school group that Addie also attends. Bernerd cannot believe that Eric could hurt his family so much when they would have done anything for him. Overall, the Baxter parents have raised good, solid kids.
A Complicated Interest
When Bernerd first meets Addie he thinks she is rather bitchy and miserable. Then he feels sorry for her. Then he starts to really like her and her rather wacky conversational techniques. Then, well, who knows where this will lead.
Addie does not know what to make of Bernerd as a boy or as a person. She sees that he is kind of nerdy, really smart and very creative. He is kind and caring, something she has not experienced in the past few years or months. He is always honest with Addie and tells her what she needs to hear when she needs to hear it. Through this honesty, Bernerd forces Addie to be reflective even when she least wants to. He is direct, he is charming and he is supportive of his friends.
Bernerd knows that Addie talks to the “moon”.
